Anatomy
Elastic esophagus adapted for swallowing whole fish; no gag reflex (industry claim, disputed). Liver has natural capacity for fat storage as migratory energy reserve. Hepatic lipidosis is reversible in early stages.
Behavior
Gregarious, social species. Domesticated breeds show reduced fear response. Mulard hybrids are notably docile. Behavioral indicators of distress during gavage are debated.
